POLICY RECOMMENDATION

The United States Congress should pass a bill to prohibit the use of dangerous chemicals in consumer products and manufacturing, because it will protect consumers from health damage, help the environment, and create new jobs by expanding the environmental health industry. First, this bill would protect consumers from health damage. There are many health concerns associated with the use of dangerous chemicals in consumer products. There are many health concerns and they range from a risk of cancer to breathing issues. Secondly, this bill would help the environment. A decrease in the amount of toxic chemicals released will exponentially help the environment and reduce our carbon footprint. Lastly, this bill will support the US economy by creating new jobs. New FDA and EPA jobs will support the US government and economy, along with decreasing the national unemployment rate. This bill is very feasible. It is similar to one proposed earlier this year on prohibiting the use of certain chemicals in cosmetic brands. It has not been passed yet, but has gained lots of support. The proposed solution would be to have a bill that encompasses more than just cosmetics and to have all products and manufacturers adhere to the rules.
